Coffee is one of the world's most important agricultural commodities, but its future is under threat. Devastating diseases and rapid climate change are jeopardising production in more than 50 countries. In this talk, we explore how the CIFC (Coffee Rust Research Centre) in Portugal has become the epicentre of an international research network since 1955.
We'll discover the history of the Timor Hybrid - the genetic basis of 90% of the resistant Arabica varieties we drink today - and understand the race against time to develop plants resilient to the new climate. A unique opportunity to get to know the Portuguese science that works behind the scenes to ensure that coffee doesn't disappear from our tables.
